Mira Loma Park is a city park in south east Reno. The park provides outdoor recreational opportunities to the people of Reno.

Mira Loma Park

The City of Reno's Mira Loma Park is situated at the northeast corner of McCarran Blvd and Mira Loma Drive. The park is owned and maintained by the City of Reno and is funded in part by a grant from Nevada Energy. The park has restroom facilities that are open year round and covered picnic tables. Two sets of playground equipment, each designed for different age groups, are located near the restrooms and picnic tables. The covered picnic tables and a barbeque grill can be reserved for group use from the City of Reno's parks department. Mira Loma Park is also a great example of the City's effort to embrace green energy technology. In 2011 the City installed an electricity generating wind turbine and solar panels. The solar panel installation also provides shade for some of the benches that are near the playground equipment.

Fitness Trail

The paved fitness trail around Mira Loma Park is about 1.15 miles long. This trail is used by walkers, joggers, and people on bicycles. It is not uncommon to see people walking their dogs or just out enjoying Reno's pleasant weather. The fitness trail has signs indicating quarter miles. Along the trail fitness enthusiats will find opportunities to exercise on the various types of exercise equipment provided. The exercise stations include push-ups, pull-ups, and stretching. On the northeast section of the trail, near the monkey bars, the trail extends along a canal for about 3/4 of a mile. Using this extension adds about 1.5 miles, round trip, to the 1.15 mile loop trail. Ducks, geese, and other wildlife are frequently encountered along the canal section of the trail.

Recreational Facilities

The City gave a lot of thought into having this park serve a wide variety of interests. On the north end of the park the Rattlesnake Mountain skate park features 40,000 square feet of challenging skateboard ramps. The skate park is busy with beginners and experts on most every sunny day. Three tennis courts are open on a first come first served basis. The courts appear to need some maintenance but are otherwise in a useable condition. Two handball courts are available and one of them has a basketball hoop installed. The large field area enclosed by the fitness trail provides enough area for three soccer fields and three baseball diamonds. Soccer and softball leagues compete at this complex throughout the spring, summer and fall.

Mira Loma Park is an oasis of outdoor recreational opportunities. A small shopping center with a grocery store and a pizza restaurant is just across Mira Loma Drive. Alcohol is not permitted in any City of Reno park except during special events. To reserve the covered picnic tables or a baseball diamond call the Reno parks department at (775) 334-2262.
